Glenmore Heritage Valley Golf Club - A gem of Penrith

Thursday, January 24, 2019

As many of my patients and you readers would know by now, I love my golf, and if I'm not in the clinic, I can probably be found on a golf course somewhere. Just this week I was lucky enough to play a round at one of our local Penrith courses; Glenmore Heritage Valley Golf Club.  The weather was hot but the golf didn't disappoint

One thing that hits you as you drive in is the authenticity of the place! You truly are in a heritage environment. From the clubhouse, to the pro-shop, the buildings are in keeping with the heritage architecture. The rustic and relaxed environment is unlike what you are likely to experience at any other local golf course.

Now as we know, not every round of golf goes to plan. Thankfully, I didn't play too badly. However, even if you didn't, around here, you wouldn't mind too much as there is an absolutely beautiful backdrop to keep you eyes and your mind occupied.

The course opens up with two pretty relaxed holes; 2 relatively short par 4s to ease you into the round. Don't worry; there there are plenty of challenges lurking on the other 16 holes.  The course is ‘links style' in its design and is comprised of generous fairways and well placed bunkers and water hazards.

An enjoyable front 9 comes to an end with a challenging par 3 – a full water carry to a sloping green. This is definitely a hole where your round can take a turn for the worst. Once you have navigated that hole, the 10th tee shot is, in my opinion, the most enjoyable tee shot on the course. You play from the top of the hill, near the clubhouse, down into the valley below, where you will play holes 10-18. There is water on every hole from 11-18, making it a challenging stretch of golf. A round can be somewhat saved on the last couple of holes. Hole 17 is a Par 5 that is reachable in 2 and hole 18 is an uphill par 3 with a water carry – make sure you take 1 extra club!

Overall, I found the round to be very enjoyable. The mixture of wide fairways, some short holes, some long challenging holes, and lots of water makes it a fun challenge. It would be a fun course for the social golfer and the seasoned golfer would be challenged by a few of the holes.

The location of the course makes for great scenery and it is one of the more aesthetic golf courses in the area.
